Boundary Marker

A physical marker (post, stone, metal survey pin) that indicates the location of a land parcel boundary point in the field.

A boundary marker is a physical marker that indicates the precise location of a land parcel boundary point in the field. Boundary markers are essential for identifying and preserving land property boundaries.

Types of boundary markers in Latvia:

  • Concrete posts - most commonly used markers in rural areas
  • Metal pins - used in hard surfaces (asphalt, concrete)
  • Iron pipes - buried in the ground with concrete base
  • Natural objects - trees, stones (less commonly used today)
  • Marked points - painted marks on buildings or structures

Boundary marker requirements:

  • Must be durable and weather-resistant
  • Must be easily findable in the field
  • Must comply with regulatory requirements
  • Must be precisely positioned on the boundary line

Boundary marker installation:

Boundary markers are installed by a certified surveyor during cadastral surveying. The process includes:

  1. Precise determination of boundary point coordinates
  2. Selection of appropriate boundary marker
  3. Securing the marker in the ground
  4. Documentation in the land boundary plan

Boundary marker protection:

According to Latvian legislation:

  • Boundary markers are part of the land property
  • Their unauthorized moving or destruction is prohibited
  • Administrative liability is provided for damaging markers
  • The owner must maintain boundary markers in order

Restoration of lost boundary markers:

If a boundary marker is lost or damaged, it can be restored by a certified surveyor based on coordinates indicated in the land boundary plan. This process requires repeated surveying work.
